At a luncheon held on November 12, the Truman Heartland Community Foundation (THCF) awarded the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC) a $20,000 grant in the Community Action category. The challenge grant will help fund a campaign to build a performance and arts center in downtown Lee's Summit. LSEDC, in association with the City of Lee’s Summit and the Martin City Melodrama, has developed initial plans to renovate the historic Arnold Hall for performances with a long-term goal of creating an Arts District in downtown Lee's Summit.

For its upcoming fiscal year beginning on July 1, the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC) announced its Executive Committee and new Board of Directors members. LSEDC welcomes Keith Asel, Vice President of Private Banking - Commerce Bank and Damond Boatwright, CEO of Lee's Summit Medical Center, to the Board of Directors. They are filling positions vacated by Steve Rich, Vice President of Townsend Capital and Rick Viar, President of Summit Bank of Kansas City. Rick is moving on to the Executive Committee as treasurer.

As part of its ongoing strategy to retain and expand business, the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC), along with its counterparts from other economic development organizations throughout the Kansas City metro, conducted a short e-mail survey designed to gauge the impact the recent economic challenges are having on the business community.

Although, the current economy is presenting some challenges, the overall responses were positive. Six economic development organizations participated in the survey, with 236 businesses responding for a 20% response rate. LSEDC sent surveys to approximately 100 companies and also had a 20% return rate. Here is how Lee's Summit companies compare to businesses throughout the Kansas City, Mo., metro area:
