Sunday ev Fannin was being held at the detention on stealing and receiving stolen property charges from Lee’s Summit as well as another agency’s warrant. Once at the hospital Fannin escaped from custody and ran south from the hospital. Fannin at the time of his escape was wearing an orange jumpsuit and chain around his waist which secured his wrists in cuffs. It is unknown how Fannin was able to escape from the guard’s custody. Fannin was recaptured at 10:55 PM, still near St lukes. Fannin will likely face additional charges after his brief brush with freedom.
Beginning this month, Lee’s Summit residents may license their pets from the comfort of their own home. Residents will need only the current rabies vaccination certificate and a credit card. To license a pet on-line go to: www.lspets.net and follow the prompts for the licensing procedure. After verification of the information entered during the licensing process, a pet license will be mailed directly to the home. All licenses purchased in November and December will be valid for all of 2010.

ening 11-22-09 shortly after 7:30 p.m. guards from Brice Detention (Holden Mo.) arrived at St. Luke’s East in Lee’s Summit for an unknown medical reason with 21 year old Lee’s Summit resident James M. Fannin.
On Saturday August 22nd two local police departments, Lee’s Summit and Raytown, were recognized with the Barbara Potts Award* from Hope House. Each department has taken the lead in recognizing that domestic violence is a community problem that we all must work together for the common goal of safety for all citizens. Both the Lee’s Summit and Raytown Police Departments formed domestic violence units with one detective in 1997. Now, over a decade later, Lee’s Summit has expanded to two detectives who continue to operate and work collaboratively with Hope House. Both departments understand the seriousness of the crime of domestic violence and have contributed to the change in culture in how victims are treated and abusers are held accountable.
On March 30, 2009 the police department issued a press release requesting assistance locating a wanted subject, 36 year old Benjamin F. Wolkey of Lee’s Summit. The attempt to locate was related to a January 30, 2009 offense of Statutory Sodomy involving a 6 year old female victim. Mr. Wolkey was aware he had a $100,000 cash only warrant for his arrest and was avoiding apprehension. Detectives believed he fled the metro area driving a gold 2005 Buick Rendezvous.
At 4:55 a.m. Tuesday morning (08-18-09) officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of SE Winchester Dr. on the report of two gunshots heard in the area.
This month a new police department patrol unit has hit the streets. Officer Scott McMilian and his partner Jax, a dark coated 19 month old German Sheppard, are on patrol to provide a specialized police presence in the community and assist other officers in the performance of their duties.
