Pack up your lawn chairs, blankets, kids and friends and hang out in downtown Lee's Summit for a night of Reggae music mon! Friday, July 17 is Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation’s Jamaican Jam sponsored by the Lee’s Summit Arts Council and the Missouri Arts Council. This year’s Reggae performers include Jah Lion, Making Movies, Elisha Israel and AZ-One and Spiritual Rez.
The fun begins at 7pm and goes until 10:30pm and is held on Green Street in Downtown Lee’s Summit on the City Hall Plaza. The concert is free and concessions will be available for purchase, no coolers please.
The TRiKC Longview Jr. Triathlon will be held on July 26, 2009 at the Longview Recreation Center. The event, sponsored by Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation and TriKC consists of a 100 yard pool swim, a 3 mile bike, and a 1 mile run for children ages 10 and under. For children ages 11 to 14, the event consists of a 200 yard pool swim, 6 mile bike, and 2 mile run. This year we have added a new Teen Elite division (ages 15 to 17) who will swim 300 yards, bike 9 miles, and run 3 miles. Kids and Teens ages 6 to 17 can participate.
Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is now taking registrations for the annual “Summer Classis” Open Tennis Tournament. Play will be held July 10 through July 12. Tournament Headquarters will be located at Lee's Summit North High School Bronco Tennis Courts (901 NE Douglas, Lee's Summit, MO) as will some matches. Other match locations will include Summit Park Tennis Courts, 451 NW Blue Pkwy, LSMO, Upper Banner Tennis Courts, 520 NE Noeleen Ln, LSMO, Lee’s Summit High School Tiger Tennis Courts, 400 SE Blue Pkwy, LSMO. Maps will be available at tournament headquarters.

This year’s Zydeco performers include Blue Orleans, Billy Ebeling and the Late for Dinner Band, Washboard Joe and the Soapsuds and Ernest James Zydeco Jubilee.
