Lee's Summits Downtown Music series continued this past Friday night with a concert at the depot featuring rock band Spiney Norman. Spiney Norman entertained a large crowd with a full mix of pop, jam, and rock music, presented with a high level of energy and enthusiasm. This band features:
Born out of Joe and Neal's desire to play unadulterated rock and roll in a lose setting, Spiny Norman began as an offshoot of the Americana/Roots based Wheelhouse. While Wheelhouse offered a wonderfully dulcet acoustic environment that both musicians deeply cherished, Joe grew increasingly itching to play electric and Neal had a long time Jones to switch from bass to guitar in a rock setting. The two recruited long time friend Alan Luecke on bass and original Wheelhouse drummer Tim Heft and began their Saturday afternoon jams mixed in with the occassional party gig.
StrotherWeb loves live music, and considers ourselves fortunate to be based in Lee's Summit, with it's wide array of class acts. One of our favorite local bands is Gas Food Lodging. This local duo features Scott Devouton and Aaron Duncan. GFL released their latest original recording today, "Tuesday Night". Tuesday Night is about a random weeknight in downtown Lee's Summit, Missouri (U.S.) that started with a jam session and ended at Eddie's Double Crown Lounge. Catch GFL live around Lee's Summit at numerous music venues. You can also see them in a StrotherWeb: Live! segment recorded in June. The June stream is available here, and the new recording of Tuesday Night is featured below.
StrotherWeb: Live! - Clint Martinez, Live from Downtown Lee's Summit.StrotherWeb brought live music back to the airwaves Saturday night when we went over to Braata Caribbean Bar and Restaurant to catch the Clint Martinez Trio. We last covered this band just before our summer hiatus, and we knew they were a great choice for our return to covering live, local, entertainment. Braata is one of our favorite venues, and with this band on the patio, why wouldn't we choose this opportunity to get the show on? If you missed the show, here is some unedited video to give you a taste of what you missed.
Our roving reporter was wandering around downtown Lee's Summit on Sunday, and perchanced to hear some smooth blue notes emenating in the distance. It didn't take long to track the sound to Maxwells back patio, where he found that the sound was coming from Blues Quartet "Junebug and the Porchlights". Von Smith
