A Lee's Summit High School graduate, Kevin Hile excelled as a student athlete while attending LSHS from 1987 through 1991. While he earned letters in basketball, track and golf, his true passion was football; he lettered all four years while working diligently to improve his skills as a guard, linebacker and kicker. Participation in athletics helped Kevin develop the strong work ethic, determination and persistence that would serve him as an adult.
Broadcasting students from Lee's Summit High School and Lee's Summit West High School captured awards in the four-state Regional Broadcast Conference, held at Drury University. Lee's Summit High School Tiger Broadcast students winning awards were Karlie Swan and Allison Derks, first place in spot feature, and Karlie Swan and Morgan Raukar, honorable mention in feature story-long form. The Tiger Broadcast staff with Karlie Swan as news director took second in Broadcast Show Challenge. Lee's Summit West High School Titan Television students winning awards were Ethan Baxter, Leanna Perry, Greg Janssen and Adam Hall, first place in commercial; Kyle East, first place in anchoring; Kyle East and Alyssa Steen, honorable mention in news story; and Alie Davila, honorable mention in live reporting. The Titan TV staff with Aaron Van Pelt as executive producer won first place in Broadcast Show Challenge. |

Lee's Summit R-7 School District staff and community members recently celebrated the dedication of the Lee's Summit High School Kevin Hile Memorial Cardio Room. A ceremony for the facility, located in the school's building B gymnasium mezzanine, was held Nov. 12.
Susanne Mitko, a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Bernard Campbell Middle School, was selected as one of six finalists for Missouri Teacher of the Year, according to an Aug. 20 announcement from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
