Exit is final piece in new half-diamond interchange

Local citizens are invited to join representatives from the Missouri Department of Transportation for a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. to celebrate the redesigned and completed Blue Parkway half-diamond interchange.

This new traffic exchange is part of the much larger project to enhance the entire transportation system at I-470 and Route 50, which serves as the only major freeway-to-freeway junction in the southeastern metropolitan area.

Crews will shift focus to complete the connector roads spanning Route 50 and 350 to join the two half-diamond interchanges at Pryor Road and Blue Parkway, creating what is commonly referred to as a Split-Diamond Interchange configuration.

The higher-capacity split-diamond will better manage the traffic in and through Lee's Summit as the city continues to experience a surge in urban and commercial growth.

Inside Strotherweb - Local News

The City will seek input from the community to identify the best uses for future allocations of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that best meet three national objectives – the needs of low-to-moderate income individuals and families, efforts to address blight, and any urgent need in Lee’s Summit, such as a natural disaster.

CDBG funds are used to address housing needs for the homeless, affordable housing; decent living conditions and employment needs of low-to-moderate income individuals; and special needs for the elderly, persons with mental or physical disabilities, individuals with HIV/AIDS, abused children and domestic violence victims.
