Xpressions Boutique opened on November 20 at 311 SE Douglas, in the Vogue Retail Space. Xpressions Boutique offers organic mineral cosmetics, allowing clients to create custom blends to match their skin tone. “Our mission is to put the natural back in beauty and to provide women with most natural form of skincare and cosmetics.” Owner Dara Huber has also operated another store – ColorXpressions – at the Independence Center for more than 10 years. “We wanted to open our second location in downtown Lee’s Summit,” Huber said. “Xpressions Boutique is a great fit for the downtown area. ening 11-22-09 shortly after 7:30 p.m. guards from Brice Detention (Holden Mo.) arrived at St. Luke’s East in Lee’s Summit for an unknown medical reason with 21 year old Lee’s Summit resident James M. Fannin.
Fannin was being held at the detention on stealing and receiving stolen property charges from Lee’s Summit as well as another agency’s warrant. Once at the hospital Fannin escaped from custody and ran south from the hospital. Fannin at the time of his escape was wearing an orange jumpsuit and chain around his waist which secured his wrists in cuffs. It is unknown how Fannin was able to escape from the guard’s custody.
Fannin was recaptured at 10:55 PM, still near St lukes. Fannin will likely face additional charges after his brief brush with freedom.
At a luncheon held on November 12, the Truman Heartland Community Foundation (THCF) awarded the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC) a $20,000 grant in the Community Action category. The challenge grant will help fund a campaign to build a performance and arts center in downtown Lee's Summit. LSEDC, in association with the City of Lee’s Summit and the Martin City Melodrama, has developed initial plans to renovate the historic Arnold Hall for performances with a long-term goal of creating an Arts District in downtown Lee's Summit.
Lee’s Summit has again been recognized as one of the top ten cities in the United States for its use of technology to better engage citizens with local government! The ninth annual Digital Cities Survey ranked Lee’s Summit sixth of the most advanced digital cities in America in its population category (75,000 – 124,999). This is the second consecutive year Lee’s Summit has been recognized for this achievement, increasing our standings by three spots from last year.
Beginning this month, Lee’s Summit residents may license their pets from the comfort of their own home. Residents will need only the current rabies vaccination certificate and a credit card. To license a pet on-line go to: www.lspets.net and follow the prompts for the licensing procedure. After verification of the information entered during the licensing process, a pet license will be mailed directly to the home. All licenses purchased in November and December will be valid for all of 2010.

A Lee's Summit High School graduate, Kevin Hile excelled as a student athlete while attending LSHS from 1987 through 1991. While he earned letters in basketball, track and golf, his true passion was football; he lettered all four years while working diligently to improve his skills as a guard, linebacker and kicker. Participation in athletics helped Kevin develop the strong work ethic, determination and persistence that would serve him as an adult.
Broadcasting students from Lee's Summit High School and Lee's Summit West High School captured awards in the four-state Regional Broadcast Conference, held at Drury University. Lee's Summit High School Tiger Broadcast students winning awards were Karlie Swan and Allison Derks, first place in spot feature, and Karlie Swan and Morgan Raukar, honorable mention in feature story-long form. The Tiger Broadcast staff with Karlie Swan as news director took second in Broadcast Show Challenge. Lee's Summit West High School Titan Television students winning awards were Ethan Baxter, Leanna Perry, Greg Janssen and Adam Hall, first place in commercial; Kyle East, first place in anchoring; Kyle East and Alyssa Steen, honorable mention in news story; and Alie Davila, honorable mention in live reporting. The Titan TV staff with Aaron Van Pelt as executive producer won first place in Broadcast Show Challenge.

Lee's Summit R-7 School District staff and community members recently celebrated the dedication of the Lee's Summit High School Kevin Hile Memorial Cardio Room. A ceremony for the facility, located in the school's building B gymnasium mezzanine, was held Nov. 12.
The Piccadilly Gala Planning Committee is pleased to announce some great auction items and new twists at the popular event. The 7th Annual Piccadilly Gala: Polynesian Paradise is a ladies night out and auction benefit for Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, Inc, and is scheduled for October 1st at The Pavilion at John Knox Village. A limited number of tickets are still available.
